Finding the Extraordinary in the Unscripted
There is a specific kind of quiet you only find when you’re looking through a macro lens. The world shrinks. The noise of the day fades away, and suddenly, you aren’t just looking at a flower—you’re looking at a story.
I didn’t set out that morning at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum with a rigid plan. In fact, most of my favorite images happen when I let curiosity take the lead. I was wandering, waiting for something to “click,” when I saw it: a Pasqueflower, tucked away in the rock garden, catching the morning light just right.
The Beauty in the Details
Most people walk right past these early bloomers, but through the lens, the Pasqueflower is a masterclass in texture. I spent a long time watching the way the fine, silver “fuzz” on the petals caught the light, creating a halo of soft lines.
This is where the name Lens & Lines truly comes from. To me, nature is built on a foundation of incredible geometry and structure. Whether it’s the radial symmetry of a wildflower or the sweeping curve of a landscape, there is a logic to the beauty. My job is simply to use the lens to isolate those lines and share them with you.
A Philosophy of Observation
I’ve often been told I have a “restless curiosity”—a trait that has followed me through a long career and now into this second act of professional photography. I don’t want to just take a “pretty picture.” I want to capture the moment that made me stop walking.
